2024 Volvo EX90 – A Who’s Who of Tech Titans

By Edward A. Sanchez — Nov. 9, 2022

When former Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson stated in 2017 that he believed “the future is electric” and vowed that all Volvo models from 2019 onward would be electrified in some form, there was still a great deal of skepticism and reservation in the larger automotive industry about the inevitability of electrification. Although Volvo is now led by Jim Rowan, Samuelsson’s promise is coming to fruition with the debut of the Volvo EX90 three-row crossover.

The EX90 represents the first purpose-built EV by the company. Its previous offerings, the XC40 and C40 Recharge, were adaptations of existing ICE platforms, with the XC40 also offered in ICE and PHEV variants. It will also be the brand’s second vehicle built in the U.S. following the S60 sedan.

If you had any doubts about Volvo positioning itself as a premium brand, the EX90’s $80,000 price should leave no question. But for that sum, the EX90 comes packed with technology from some of the most recognized names in the tech industry.

Safety has been a theme for Volvo for more than five decades, and the EX90 continues that tradition with a number of advanced safety features. A LiDAR system from Luminar, working in conjunction with Nvidia Drive Xavier and Orin, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit bring a holistic approach to safety and occupant comfort.
